How the Jewelry is Made

The jewelry range is entirely hand-made. Beads are rolled from triangles of paper, and then sealed to make them durable. They are then created into beautiful pieces of jewelry, each truly unique and a true work of art.

The AfriBeads range includes handmade paper bead necklaces, earrings, and bracelets in a range of styles and colors. All AfriBeads jewelry can be ordered from a beautiful range of styles and are available in a variety of colors.

Each item of jewelry includes the name of the woman who made it on the tag, providing a direct personal connection to the maker.

How the Baskets are Made

The baskets, bowls, and platters are woven from banana palm and raffia harvested locally from palm trees and bought by the basket weavers in the local markets. Using a traditional coiled weaving technique, strips of raffia are wrapped around bundles of banana leaf stems and crafted into these beautiful baskets.

Each features a traditional Ugandan design reflecting the culture and landscape of Uganda.

The knowledge of how to weave has been passed down from generation to generation.

Baskets can be ordered in specific designs and colors, or as a mixed lot. As the baskets are handmade, there are slight variations in patterns and colors.

How the Wax Wraps are Made

The brightly colored African cotton fabrics are bought from tiny stores in the bustling markets in Kampala. The honey bee wax is also sourced locally. The wax is melted with rosin over a charcoal burner then brushed and ironed onto the squares of fabric. 

The wax wraps are perfect as an eco-friendly way to wrap or cover food. They come in 4 sizes. 

How the Fabric Shopping Bags, Aprons, Produce Bags and Skirts are Made  

AfriBeads fabric range comes in beautiful bright colors and designs of cotton fabrics bought in the local markets of Kampala. The fabric is sewn by a seamstress in the AfriBeads group. 

The shopping bags each fold up into a pocket for easy storage. 

The aprons come in plain or patchwork designs. 

The produce bags contain 5 sheer bags to use when fruit and vegetable shopping. 

The skirts are wrap-around and come in 2 sizes.
